Clean Tile Grout Floors: The Best Way
Your bathroom or kitchen is not fully clean until you scrub the floors. Cleaning your tile grout is essential, as it does not only make your home look clean but also healthy and germ-free. If you are looking for the best way to clean your tile grout floors, you have come to the right place. In this guide, we will walk you through some practical steps on how you can clean your tile grout floors easily and effectively.

How Often Should I Clean My Tile Grout Floors?

You should clean your tile grout floors whenever they become discolored or dirty with mildew and mold. How often you clean the floors depends on the location of the tile and how often you use it. However, floor tiles require more frequent cleaning than wall tiles, which means you might have to be cleaning your tile grout floors every week or whenever the urgent need arises.

What You Need to Clean Your Tile Grout Floors

  • Sponge
  • Grout brush
  • Rubber gloves and safety glasses
  • Towel
  • Bucket
  • Oxygen bleach, powder
  • Chlorine bleach
  • Alkaline cleaner

How to Cleaning Tile Grout Floor with Oxygen Bleach

Oxygen bleach is one of the best materials with which to clean tile grout floors. This material is non-toxic, free of harsh chemical odor, and safe for the environment. This cleaning agent is also friendly with colored grouts, as it would not stain the lines. Here’s how to clean your tile grout with oxygen bleach:

Mix the Oxygen Bleach with Water

Mix the powdered oxygen bleach with water. This mixture will give you something like a paste, very close to toothpaste. The ratio of your mixture should be 2:1 (powdered oxygen bleach to water).

Apply the Mixture to the Grout and Scrub

After mixing it, use a sponge to apply the paste to the grout lines. Allow the paste to it on the grout for about five to ten minutes. When applying the paste, make sure you put on rubber gloves to protect your hands.

After letting it sit for some time, use a stiff grout brush to scrub the lines. While scrubbing, you will start seeing the dirt going off and the grout brightening up. It will brighten and return to its original color. This process will also ensure the grout lines are free from mildew and mold.

Rinse and Clean the Grout

After you scrub the grout lines to your satisfaction, you can rinse off the paste with water. Use a clean cloth to wipe the entire tile when you are done with the tile grouts. Before you reseal the grout, allow the tile to dry overnight. You do not need any special thing to dry it; air can do the job.

Cleaning tile grout floors with Acid Cleaner made from Organic Salt

Acid cleaners do an impressive job of getting rid of stains from grout. There are many acid cleaners on the market, with one of the best being the Grout-eez – Tile and Grout Cleaner. These cleaning agents come in handy in cleaning greasy, dirty tile grout lines on the floor. Here’s how to use acid cleaner to clean tile grout floors:

Shake the bottle

The first step to cleaning your tile with this cleaner is shake the bottle. This will help to activate the product. If the product was just shipped to you it probably doesn't need to. If it has sat for an extended period then definitely recommend to give it a couple shakes with the lid on, of course.

Apply the Product Directly to the Grout Lines

Apply it directly onto the grout lines and we recommend testing a few square tiles at a time. Let the solution sit on the grout line for a couple of minutes (between 5 and 10 minutes). After that, you can scrub the grout lines with either the stand-up grout brush (highly recommend) or the hand-held brush if you are trying to get into hard to reach places. Scrub the grout lines until you see the stain removed or the dirt gone. (Note: depending on how dirty the grout is you may need to repeat the process, let the product set longer or scrub more in certain spots) Then you will start noticing the grout return to it's original color.

Rinse and Dry the Tile and Grout

After scrubbing and restoring the grouts to its original color, clean up the remaining cleaning solution on the surface of the tile and grout with a mop. Use clean water to rinse the tile and grout lines. After rinsing the tile and grout line, dry the grout and tile with a clean towel.

After cleaning it, allow air to dry the surface of the tile and grout lines overnight before sealing it. Once it is dry, you can seal it to keep it that way. Make sure you seal it before you use the surface again to prevent introducing moisture to the grout lines and tiles.

Cleaning Tile Grout Floors with Chlorine Bleach

Chlorine bleach is one of the best cleaning agents for getting rid of tough stains and dirt on tiles and grout lines. However, you need to be very careful when using this agent, as it is not only harsh on moisture but also on humans.

Wear Safety Glasses and Gloves

To use chlorine bleach to clean your tile grout safely, you need to put on safety gear. The full-strength chlorine bleach is a bit harsh, and you need to protect yourself when using it. You need to wear rubber gloves, safety glasses, and old clothes that you can let go of after cleaning the floor.

In addition to wearing protective gear, you want to make sure the environment is ventilated. Make sure every window close by is open to allow for adequate flow of air.

Scrubbing

Once you are ready to clean, dip your brush into the cleaning agent, allow it to drip on the grout lines, and then scrub very well to get rid of the tough stains and debris.

Rinse and Clean the Surface

After scrubbing, use clean water to rinse the tile very well. If there is any bleach remaining on the surface, you can use the sponge to clean it. Repeat this process until the whole tile and grout lines are clean. After that, use a dry, clean towel to clean the surface of the grout and tile, and then allow it to dry overnight before you seal it.

Wrapping Up

Keeping your tile grout floors does not have to be difficult. With the simple techniques in this guide, you can clean your tiles and grout lines every week without any stress.
